BECOME... Love
"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." -1 John 3:16-18
The world is very evidently in disarray and sometimes can feel love-less. Just turn on the news or scroll through your Facebook feed. However, the Lord has been teaching me lately that posting, debating, and discussing injustices is simply not enough, and in turn, I need to take action now. I know… very ironic that this is a post but even so, I hope to encourage you to come alongside and love others with your actions. Love does. When we take action it becomes personal because we connect with a person and a story of injustice that we cannot simply turn off or scroll past. We relate that sexually exploited young girl with a younger sister, the college student trying to fill a void with drugs and alcohol with a close friend, or the refugee family displaced in a foreign land with a time when we felt afraid or victimized. As a result, we enter into injustice alongside our brothers and sisters. We get in the trenches and show sacrificial love by being present for those in need and offering the hope only found in Jesus Christ.
The question I pose for myself and anyone reading this post is: how might we demonstrate love toward someone in need this week?
